5 years "Austrian Open Water Cup"

In 2016, the “Austrian Open Water Cup” celebrates its fifth anniversary! For that reason it is going to be a very special year for the biggest swimming series in Europe. The Series started with just five competitions and  has since expanded to nine professional events, from which the best six results are going to  count.

What’s new in 2016?

  • In 2016 there’s a competition in Lower Austria again: the “Lunzer Seeschwimmen”
  • There’s a new age group for the juniors (16-23 years) and another for the 40–49 year olds
  • A new group consisting of Christopher Beck, Sarah Frühwirth und Andreas Sachs will be coordinating the cup starting this year.

Our dates for 2017 are fixed - registration starts to open

As in previous years, the kick-off in the open water season will be at the Stubenbergsee in Styria on 7th of May. The season will finish off at the new event at the famous Wörthersee with an astonishing 7,5 k distance.

The victory ceremony for the cup will be held at a separate evening ceremony at a nice location directly at the lake. Some events will change  their dates like the Vienna Swim Trial, which will be held on 15 th of July.

World class athletes at the 2nd Vienna Swim Trial

On 10.09.2016 the second Vienna Swim Trial, the final of the Austrian Open Water Cup powered by arena, took place at the “Neuen Donau” in Vienna with a lot of international swimmers. The 6k main event won Marcus Herwig (GER) ahead of the vice world champion (2015, 5k) Rob Muffles (GER) and the former professional swimmer Nicky Lange (GER). Susanne Seidel (GER) won the women’s race. With the American ambassador Alexa Wesner was an international participation at the 1.5k and the 3k race as well.

“Fuschlseecrossing”- Race Review

The 230 swimmers of the Austrian Open Water Cup powered by arena were lucky past weekend: there were a lot of visitors and the weather conditions couldn’t have been better – the lake was as smooth as glass, 30°C outside and a water temperature of 21°C.

5th Hechtsee X Treme - race results

The weekend at the Austrian Hechtsee was exciting as well as eventfully. Besides the event of the Austrian Open Water Cup powered by arena the Austrian nationals and the Tyrol championships in open water swimming took place. In total were 300 competitiors (new record!) swimming whether the 5k or the 2.5k race.

Competitor record and a new course record at the 6th Hallstättersee-Swim-Marathon

220 people from 13 different nations started on Saturday, July 30th, 2016, at the 6th Hallstättersee-Swim-Marathon. The weather conditions couldn’t have been better: the sun was shining, the water temperature was between 16 and 20°C and the beautiful, 4000 years old city Hallstatt rounded it out, it was simply perfect for all the swimmers.
